Discover Alishan

Alishan offers one of the most scenic mountain and forest travel experiences in Taiwan, combining sunrise viewpoints, cloud seas, ancient cypress forests, tea plantations, mountain railways, forest trails, and a peaceful highland atmosphere. It is best known for its sunrise over layered mountains, misty forest paths, and the historic Alishan Forest Railway, which gives the area a nostalgic and slow-travel feeling.

A visit can include watching sunrise at Zhushan, walking through giant tree trails, riding the forest railway, visiting tea-growing areas, exploring mountain villages, enjoying high-mountain tea, and seeing seasonal cherry blossoms. The best time to visit is March to May for spring flowers and mild weather, or October to December for clearer skies and comfortable hiking conditions. Alishan also works well as part of a wider Taiwan route with Chiayi, Sun Moon Lake, Tainan, Taichung, and Taipei.
