Discover Haikou City

Haikou offers a relaxed tropical city experience in northern Hainan, combining coastal parks, old streets, volcanic landscapes, seafood, coconut culture, warm weather, and a slower island rhythm. As Hainan’s capital, it is less resort-focused than Sanya and better for travelers who want to see local island life, food, and everyday neighborhoods.

A visit can include walking through Qilou Old Street, visiting coastal parks, trying Hainanese food, exploring local markets, seeing volcanic geological areas, and using Haikou as a starting point for island travel. The best time to visit is November to April, when the weather is warm but less humid than summer. Haikou works well with Hainan Island routes including Wenchang, Bo’ao, Wanning, Lingshui, and Sanya.
