Tibet offers one of China’s most powerful highland travel experiences, combining Himalayan landscapes, Tibetan Buddhist culture, monasteries, pilgrimage routes, sacred lakes, high passes, prayer flags, old towns, and some of the world’s most dramatic plateau scenery. The best time to visit is May to October, when weather and road conditions are generally more suitable, though travelers should allow time for altitude adjustment. Tibet works well with routes through Lhasa, Shigatse, Nyingchi, Yamdrok Lake, Namtso, Everest Base Camp areas, and western Sichuan or Qinghai connections.
