Discover Ying County

Ying County offers one of Shanxi’s most remarkable architectural heritage experiences, combining ancient wooden architecture, Buddhist history, northern plains scenery, temples, and a quiet county-town atmosphere. It is best known for the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, one of China’s most extraordinary surviving wooden structures.

A visit can include seeing the wooden pagoda, exploring local temples, walking through the county town, trying Shanxi noodles, and combining the stop with wider northern Shanxi heritage routes. The best time to visit is April to June or September to October, when the weather is comfortable for sightseeing. Ying County works well with Datong, Mount Heng, Hanging Temple, Taiyuan, Pingyao, Wutai Mountain, and wider Shanxi routes.
