Hekeng offers one of Fujian’s most distinctive village heritage experiences, combining tulou earth buildings, Hakka culture, mountain scenery, rural lanes, clan architecture, and a slower countryside atmosphere. It is known for its cluster of traditional tulou buildings, giving travelers a chance to see communal architecture and village life in southern China.

A visit can include walking between tulou buildings, learning about Hakka living traditions, photographing circular and square earth houses, exploring nearby villages, and trying local Fujian rural food. The best time to visit is March to May or September to November, when the weather is mild and comfortable for village walks.
