Discover Taklamakan Desert

Taklamakan Desert offers one of China’s most powerful desert travel experiences, combining vast sand seas, oasis towns, Silk Road history, desert highways, poplar forests, southern Xinjiang culture, and a strong sense of scale. Located in the Tarim Basin, it is one of the world’s largest sandy deserts and a defining landscape of western China.

A visit can include crossing desert highways, seeing sand dunes, visiting oasis towns, exploring poplar forests in autumn, and connecting the desert with Silk Road cultural sites. The best time to visit is April to May or September to October, when temperatures are more comfortable than summer.
