Discover Turpan

Turpan offers one of China’s most distinctive desert-oasis travel experiences, combining ancient Silk Road ruins, vineyards, Uyghur culture, dry heat, karez irrigation systems, flame-colored mountains, local food, and oasis-town life. Located in Xinjiang, it is one of the best places to understand how people lived and farmed along desert trade routes.

A visit can include the Flaming Mountains, Jiaohe Ruins, grape valleys, karez wells, local markets, Uyghur food, and desert-edge scenery. The best time to visit is April to May or September to October, when temperatures are more comfortable than summer. Turpan works well with Ürümqi, Dunhuang, Hami, Korla, Kashgar, and wider Xinjiang or Silk Road routes.
