Discover Kanas Lake

Kanas Lake offers one of China’s most beautiful northern alpine lake experiences, combining deep blue water, forests, mountains, wooden villages, river valleys, autumn colors, snow scenery, and Tuva cultural elements. Located in Altay, Xinjiang, it feels remote, quiet, and visually different from many other Chinese landscapes.

A visit can include viewpoints over Kanas Lake, walking through forest trails, visiting nearby villages such as Hemu and Baihaba, photographing autumn landscapes, and experiencing winter snow scenes. The best time to visit is September to early October for golden autumn colors, or winter for snow and quiet scenery. Kanas Lake works well with Altay, Hemu, Burqin, Karamay, Ili, and wider northern Xinjiang routes.
