Discover Kashgar City

Kashgar offers one of China’s most atmospheric Silk Road city experiences, combining Uyghur culture, old-town streets, bazaars, mosques, teahouses, local food, crafts, desert-edge scenery, and a strong Central Asian feel. Located in far western Xinjiang, it is one of the best places to understand the cultural diversity and trade-route history of western China.

A visit can include walking through Kashgar Old City, visiting local markets, trying Uyghur food, exploring craft streets, seeing traditional houses, and using the city as a gateway to the Pamir region. The best time to visit is April to May or September to October, when the weather is more comfortable. Kashgar works well with Tashkurgan, Karakul Lake, the Karakoram Highway area, Yarkand, Hotan, and southern Xinjiang routes.
