Discover Shangri-La

Shangri-La offers one of Yunnan’s most atmospheric highland travel experiences, combining Tibetan culture, monasteries, old-town streets, grasslands, lakes, snow mountains, prayer flags, and a slower mountain rhythm. Located in northwest Yunnan, it feels culturally and geographically different from the lower-altitude parts of the province.

A visit can include Songzanlin Monastery, Dukezong Old Town, Napa Lake, grassland scenery, Tibetan food, local markets, and scenic drives toward mountain areas. The best time to visit is May to October, especially late spring to autumn for grasslands and clearer mountain views. Shangri-La works well with Lijiang, Dali, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Meili Snow Mountain, Yubeng, and wider Yunnan highland routes.
