Discover Tiger Leaping Gorge

Tiger Leaping Gorge offers one of China’s most dramatic hiking and canyon travel experiences, combining steep cliffs, snow mountain views, rushing river scenery, high trails, guesthouses, and a powerful sense of landscape scale. Located between Lijiang and Shangri-La, it is one of the most famous trekking routes in Yunnan.

A visit can include hiking the high trail, staying in mountain guesthouses, viewing the Jinsha River far below, photographing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain, and combining the trek with nearby Tibetan highland routes. The best time to visit is April to June or September to November, when the weather is generally clearer and better for hiking. Tiger Leaping Gorge works well with Lijiang, Shangri-La, Dali, Baisha, Haba Village, and wider northwest Yunnan routes.
