Discover Xining

Xining offers a highland gateway experience to Qinghai and the Tibetan Plateau, combining Tibetan, Hui, and Han cultural influences, mosques, monasteries, local food, markets, mountain air, and access to some of northwest China’s most beautiful landscapes. As Qinghai’s capital, it is often the starting point for Qinghai Lake and plateau road trips.

A visit can include local food markets, Dongguan Mosque, Ta’er Monastery nearby, city walks, and day trips toward Qinghai Lake or mountain areas. The best time to visit is May to October, especially summer for nearby grasslands and lake scenery. Xining works well with Qinghai Lake, Chaka Salt Lake, Qaidam Basin, Lanzhou, Tibet routes, and the broader northwest.
