Discover Yanjin

Yanjin offers one of China’s most unusual county-town travel experiences, combining an extremely narrow river valley setting, steep mountains, cliffside roads, local markets, and a striking urban form shaped by limited space. Located in Yunnan, it is best known online for its long, narrow townscape squeezed between mountains and water.

A visit can include walking through the narrow town, photographing the valley layout, exploring local streets and markets, trying regional food, and using it as a stop on a deeper Yunnan or Sichuan-Yunnan route. The best time to visit is March to May or September to November, when the weather is more comfortable for walking and photography. Yanjin works well with Zhaotong, Kunming, Yibin, Leshan, and wider northeast Yunnan routes.
